The first anti-knife operation to be carried out inside a Royal Borough nightclub took place on Saturday.

The innovative move was sparked after a 23-year-old man was found smuggling a blade down his pants at a Chelsea club.

As part of a trail-blazing operation, officers from Cremorne safer neighbourhood team put up a knife-arch to monitor revellers entering Embargo nightclub in King's Road, Chelsea, from 10pm to 1.30am.

On the night, 48 men and women were made to go through a knife-detecting arch. Of those, 23 were searched further in the club's VIP room.

Thankfully, none had weapons or drugs. But more pubs and clubs are set to be targetted by cops, who want to increase public safety.

Sector Inspector Sean Flynn said: "This operation, which was the first of its kind in the borough, was very much a success. It was very positive. The club was very pleased too."

We'd like to hear from you.

Wonderful! A police state coming to a country near you. It's disgusting to Americans to see our cousins whipped up by their government into not only accepting such impertinent searches, but having the press congratulate them for doing so. After having restricted firearms and any means whatever a person may use for self defense; having ground all the points off of commercial knives, you all, like sheep, have consented to random searches of your persons. In short, what a long way we've come from our Anglo-Saxon roots of freedom, liberty and the right to bear arms. Wouldn't it be better to ban the booze, which, by the way, is involved in the vast majority of all violent crimes, with or without weapons? It might also help you learn the goose-step without falling over. Sig heil!
