Trains jump danger signals at High Street Kensington
AN INDEPENDENT rail watchdog could consider legal action against London Underground after trains crossed danger signals three times around High Street Kensington.
This afternoon, the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) confirmed it has sent a letter to London Underground(LU) relating to its reaction to incidents on the District Line at West Kensington, Earl's Court and around the High Street in February and March this year.
It has requested that a plan of action to address the issue is produced by September 15, otherwise LU may face legal action.
A spokesman for the ORR said: "Depending on the response we receive, we will consider whether we will need to use our enforcement powers to take more formal legal action against London Underground to secure compliance."
He added that any action would require London Underground to make improvements and would have no negative impact on the service.
Suggestions that the District Line may close were branded 'very unlikely.'
A TfL spokesperson said: "Safety is our top priority and London Underground has an excellent safety record.
"We take the issues raised about our procedures very seriously and are investigating thoroughly.
"We will respond to the ORR once those investigations have been completed."
He added that rumours of a tube line closure were 'utter nonsense'.
