Council Tax frozen for the next year

Posted by Miriam Phillips on Mar 10, 10 02:43 PM in News in brief

Council tax will stay at the same rate for another year and council staff pay frozen after the borough council agreed a tough budget for this year.

Councillors at Kensington and Chelsea Council agreed that it will reduce its running costs by £9.5million in the coming year.

This means that B and D council tax rate is set at £769.30 - making it the fourth lowest in England for the fifth year running.

The savings promised will include reducing management costs by 15 per cent - saving £1.5million in the next year and freezing the pay of 800 senior staff and councillors - a total saving of £600,000.

Council tax meets 20 per cent of the council's spending on services - over half is funded by the government and fees, charges and other income.
