Notting Hill Housing Trust workers to strike

WORKERS at Notting Hill Housing Trust plan to strike over new working conditions.

Last week the 107 Unison members at the trust balloted and 94 per cent voted in favour of strike action.

Members initially called for a strike after cuts were made to flexitime and carers' leave and claims of lower pay for front-line staff and higher salaries for senior managers.

A spokesperson for Notting Hill Housing Trust(NHHT) said the changes were made to their staff contracts to try and fit in with the demand from their tenants.

She said: "Notting Hill Trust is sorry that some people feel this way but we respect their right to take action.

"Many more staff, the substantial majority, have chosen to sign their contracts and move forward. "We will do our absolute best to make sure that any form of industrial action does not disrupt our services to residents."

Unison has been backing their workers but said that strike action is always the last resort.

Housing Associations Branch Secretary Mary Powell said: "The result of the ballot is clear.

"The branch and its winder membership are four square behind Unison members of NHHT.
"The employer does still however have an opportunity to return to the negotiating table as long as they genuinely want to reach an agreement."

The details of the strike action are still to be confirmed.
