Smokers are offered help to kick the habit this week

SMOKERS in the borough are offered personalised help to kick the habit this week.

A series of workshops organised by NHS Kensington and Chelsea are planned for national No Smoking Day on Wednesday March 10.

Every year more than one million people quit smoking on No Smoking Day.

Smokers are four times more likely to quit smoking if they are given support.

Isaac Ojo, manager of the Stop Smoking Service in the borough, said: "Clinics are run in different parts of the borough throughout the year.

"Last year more than 2,500 resident smokers accessed support from the service".

Smokers attending the workshops will receive a personalised support package and advice from the Stop Smoking Service as well as a carbon monoxide assessment and an opportunity to have a mouth screening.

Local resident Tony quit the habit after using the service.
He said "I wanted to make myself healthier.
"Think positive and don't put too much pressure on yourself - and if you do slip up don't give up trying to quit - take it as a bad day and continue on."

Smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable illness and premature death in the UK.

The Stop Smoking service state that a 20-a day smoker spending approximately £5.80 per pack of cigarette would save £179.80 a month and a £2157.60 a year by kicking the habit.

For more information or support on how to quit contact the Stop Smoking Service on 0800 0859 147.
