We must act over dog fouling issue

Posted by Matthew Lewis on Mar 12, 10 03:06 PM in Letters to the editor

HOW much longer must residents endure the endemic dog fouling in this area?

There appears no will nor action to deal with this, as there also is the problem of rubbish in the form of black bags, which are regularly dumped at the side of trees day in day out. This is surely attracting vermin and is unsightly.

I have pleaded with local representatives to deal with this menace. Yet, I see no prospect of this problem going away.

As Peabody residents, dogs are apparently prohibited.

Does the Peabody Trust take any action against these tenants who break tenancy conditions? One would like to think so, but I have my reservations, as some tenants are actually allowed to keep dogs.

One law for some and another for the rest of us.

Action against tenants who do keep dogs is inconsistent and time consuming.

Often too, the justice system appears to rest with the culprit rather than the landlord and the cost in taking these cases to court is prohibitive, so the trust backs down accordingly, slating the cost to the taxpayer.

Why not charge costs to the perpetrator. Surely, this would act as a deterrent?
