More raids ahead of Notting Hill Carnival
Police have raided 18 homes across West London as part of an operation to crack down on crime ahead of the Notting Hill Carnival.
Fourteen people have been arrested over the past week in a series of raids in Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham, Westminster, Ealing and Brent.
The arrests were part of Operation Razorback, which is targeting known criminals, gangs and troublemakers, who use the carnival for violence and crime, to try and stop them attending.
As well as arresting those known for criminal offences before the carnival, officers will also set up search points at all entrances to the carnival to prevent visitors taking weapons in, and are specifically targeting pickpockets to try and lower crime.
In Kensington and Chelsea, on Friday (6), a 17-year-old was arrested for possession of ammunition after a warrant was executed in Blenheim Crescent, North Kensington. He has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date yet to be set.
In Westminster on Thursday, two addresses were raided by police.
Officers seized cannabis, stolen property and an offensive weapon at a house in Clearwell Drive, Maida Vale, on Thursday (5), but no arrests were made, and later the same day, at an address in Blomfield Villas, Paddington, a 43-year-old man was arrested on a court warrant, and was due to appear at Magistrates Court this week.
In Hammersmith and Fulham, a house in Barbara Castle close, Fulham, was raided on Friday (6) and a 20-year-old man was arrested and bailed in connection with a previous wounding, while another warrant was executed in Duncane Road, Shepherds Bush, but no arrests were made.
Four further raids were carried out by officers in Ealing, and another nine in Brent.
A police spokesman said: "We will target gangs who bully, carry weapons and commit crime, and we will continue to investigate, arrest, convict and imprison people who have no respect for others.
"Across the area we are constantly looking at crime trends and youth gangs, ensuring that we are targeting those who are responsible.
"By gathering information and responding in a uniformed approach with our neighbouring boroughs, we can ensure that we have the maximum impact in the lead up to the Notting Hill Carnival."
