Social landlords back Crossrail bid

Six major social landlords have lent their support for a new Crossrail station in North Kensington.

Octavia Housing, Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation, Catalyst Housing Group, Affinity Sutton, The Sheppard Trust and Viridian Housing are all backing the station to improve employment rates and access to public transport.

Robert Black, chief executive of Kensington and Chelsea TMO, which manages nearly 10,000 properties on behalf of the council, said: "We are happy to support this initiative and any linked investment which improves transport links and has a positive benefit for our residents."

A station on the site of the old gas works in Kensal Green would improve public transport options, and would bring redevelopment of the 67-acre site with around 2,500 new homes, plus businesses and community facilities.

Rod Cahill, chief executive of Catalyst said: "All Londoners should benefit from Crossrail, but our tenants risk being by-passed.

"Right now our area is deficient in transport, in homes, in jobs and in opportunity.

"This station and the development it might trigger would help address all of those deficiencies."

The Crossrail campaign has already been backed by MPs Sir Malcolm Rifkind, Karen Buck and Sarah Teather, London Assembly members Victoria Borwick, Jenny Jones and Kit Malthouse, as well as businesses and residents associations.
