Man charged over Rico death

A 30 year-old man has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a 21 year-old from North Kensington.

Rico Gordon, who lived in Colville Gardens, was shot dead outside a pub in Bristol in the early hours of July 3.

His mum Anna has described to the Chronicle how her life has been devastated by her son's death.

Public honoured at police awards

Three ordinary members of the public were honoured at a commendation ceremony for outstanding policing in Kensington and Chelsea.

The awards, mostly limited to serving police officers who went above and beyond the call of duty, were given to residents in the Royal Borough who, in the past year, have gone out of their way to make their area safer.

Among them was Faseneh Arfahyi, who has twice taken on criminals who were damaging or attempting to steal cars.

Charity trustees needed

Residents in Kensington and Chelsea are being encouraged to consider taking a more active role in charities as part of National Trustees' Week.

Trustee Jeffrey Ng, who volunteers for Nucleus Earls Court Community Action, has been speaking about the importance of being a trustee, as the Charity Commission appeals for more people to take up the position.

There are currently 693 registered charities in the Royal Borough, and 3,932 trustees, who help oversee the running of charities on a part-time basis.

A 32 year-old researcher has been found dead at work at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

The Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation after Damien Bowen, from Clapton, East London, was found by colleagues turning up for work on Thursday (27) morning.

He was a scientist working in St Stephen's Centre, a research and treatment centre for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, adjoining the hospital in Fulham Road.

Nearly new sale

Kensington and Chelsea Women's Club is holding its annual nearly new sale on Saturday November 12 from 1-4pm.

The sale will be at Brompton Oratory Church Hall in Brompton Road, next to the V&A Museum, and entry is £1 or free to those with a KCWC membership card.

Motorcyclists are being invited to have breakfast at Chelsea Bridge on Saturday November 5 to launch a campaign aiming to reduce motorcycle casualties.

Roadhug.org will kick off with the special breakfast at 10.30am, supported by the Ace Cafe and LondonBikers, with members of the police's training course, Bikesafe, attending.

New eating disorder clinic opens

A new eating disorders clinic has opened in Chelsea with the help of TV presenter Eamonn Holmes.

The Vincent Square Eating Disorders Service was launched on October 24 in Nightingale Place, by Susan Ringwood, chief executive of national eating disorders charity Beat.

It provides a new and improved therapeutic environment for patients, with individual bedrooms for all inpatients, a male-only wing, comfortable common areas and a landscaped garden.

Residents are being offered a free home visit to help lower their utility bills as part of a London-wide scheme to increase the energy efficiency of the capital's homes.

Home energy advisers from Climate Energy will be visiting addresses in Earls Court to offer help on improving efficiency.

Actress Patricia Hodge will officially open the British Red Cross Christmas fair at Kensington Town Hall on November 16.

The Olivier Award-winning actress, currently appearing in TV sitcom Miranda, will open the event at a drinks and canapes reception starting at 5.30pm.

A teenager photographed stabbing a student at the Notting Hill Carnival has admitted wounding with intent.

The 17 year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday October 27, where he also denied possessing a 6in knife.
