Letter - Meningitis support available

Posted by Emma Heseltine on Dec 1, 11 02:16 PM in Letters to the editor

I am writing on behalf of the Meningitis Trust in response to the news that a student living in the IES halls of residence in Manresa Road, Chelsea, was taken ill at around 9.30am on Wednesday (23) and sadly died of meningococcal disease.

Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this difficult time.

If anyone needs our emotional support, we will always be here as a listening ear, at any time of the day or night - we don't want anyone to suffer alone.

Students are one of the 'at risk' groups of contracting meningitis and we urge everyone to be aware of the symptoms.

Vaccinations don't protect against all types of meningitis so it is vital everyone knows what to look out for.

As we are now in the winter months we can expect more cases of meningitis and because we're here, no one has to face the devastation of meningitis alone.

Our commitment at the Meningitis Trust is to reach and support people who need us the most. Our support for life can change lives.

For more information on how we support, please visit www.meningitis-trust.org or call our nurses on 0800 028 18 28 any time of day and for information on symptoms please visit www.meningitis-symptoms.co.uk or download our free mobile apps at www.meningitisapp.co.uk.

Yours sincerely,
