Rifkind - Crossrail gathering momentum

Posted by Emma Heseltine on Dec 9, 11 09:00 AM in MP columns

Despite its focus on reducing the deficit, the Government is not adverse to spending money on new projects.

However, the economic situation requires it to priorities projects that can be relied upon to bring a return. One of these is Crossrail, which will strengthen London's underground and overground rail connections.

However, while the benefits of the project are numerous, the benefits for Kensington remain uncertain.

Those living in the northern part of the Borough await news of efforts to secure a station at Kensal, a development that would improve the areas links to central London, and pave the way for much needed regeneration.

No decision has yet been made. Yet the campaign for a station is gathering momentum. Cross party support has been assembled, with Karen Buck (the Labour MP for Westminster North), Sarah Teather (The Lib-Dem MP for Brent Central), and myself, all in support.

Together, we outlined the arguments in favour of a recent newspaper article. There is still a way to go, but things are now moving in the right direction.

With support from the Government, the Borough's plans for Kensal could soon become a reality.

We'd like to hear from you.
