Emergency services were called to St Lukes Road, close to the junction with Tavistock Crescent at about 12.30am following reports of a 16 year-old suffering a gunshot wound to the back.

He remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Jeanette Pepper, 38, who lives in Tavistock Crescent, said: "This happened right on the doorstep of a brand new luxury housing development.

"I know everyone always says you wouldn't expect it to happen here, but you really wouldn't. This is quite a nice part of town.

"I saw the cordon on Sunday morning, and police were out scouring the street for evidence. I hope they manage to get somebody for it, and I really hope the kid's ok.

"I worry for youngsters nowadays. Nowhere is safe."

Another neighbour told the Chronicle: "When I think about it, it makes me shudder to think this could happen in the middle of the street.

"I hope he makes a speedy recovery and that this doesn't affect him too badly, poor boy."

A 15 year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at West London Magistrates Court on Wednesday (25) charged with possession of a firearm with intent, possession of ammunition and GBH with intnet.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Hammersmith Youth Court on Wednesday February 1.

Anyone with information should call police on 020 8785 8580 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
