Pupils at a Chelsea school had the chance to show the Minister of Education for Dubai around to help him learn about teaching in London.

Youngsters at the GEMS Hampshire School in Manresa Road were visited by his excellency Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qatami on January 12, as part of his visit to the capital.

During the tour, he saw the children working with new technology, including an art class using iPads as well as more conventional tools, and took in a number of different lessons.

Head teacher Stephen Chynoweth said: "It was a great honour to welcome such distinguished dignitaries that were able to spare their time to visit our school and meet the children.

"We pride ourselves on the highest level of educational values and exceptional learning, which has become an important message to communicate globally as well as locally."

The minister was joined by his colleague Fatima Abbas, and the founder and chairman of GEMS education, Sunny Varkey.

GEMS was set up to improve the standards of education for underprivileged children and now has a global network of schools teaching children up to age 11.

It is a shame that Dubai does so little for the it's immigrant workers who live in conditions of abject poverty and repression. Still this sort of visit does good pr for a very repressive regime
