Winter weather arrangements for Kensington and Chelsea
SNOW FALL in Kensington and Chelsea has transformed the borough over the weekend into a winter wonderland making Sloane Square's resident polar bear Boris, feel very at home.
However despite the magical white landscape, snow causes many problems for people living in the area.
We've collected all the information you may need to help you deal with most eventualities - bookmark this page, or follow RBKC Council on Twitter (@rbkc_cs) for updates on services that may affect you.
Schools: At this stage schools in the borough are expected to open as usual but you should always check directly before travelling in very bad weather. Borough schools contact details.
Gritting of roads and pavements: Our Waste Management team is responsible for gritting public roads and pavements. Certain routes are prioritised, such main roads, pedestrian crossings, access to schools and social services properties.
For safety reasons it is not recommended that residents grit their own roads - our street teams are out in force making sure as much of the borough as possible is covered - if you've any concerns or questions you should email streetline@rbkc.gov.uk.
Please note: Transport for London (TFL) is responsible for maintaining the red routes which run through the borough, further information is available by calling 020 7343 5000 or email enquiries@streetmanagement.org.uk.
Clearing Ice and Snow: The council have produced a helpful guide, with advice on safely clearing snow and ice from pavements and public spaces, especially if you're concerned about vulnerable neighbours: Clearing Ice and Snow
Older and vulnerable people: Meals on wheels services should operate as normal unless we advise otherwise.
The council also has tips for keeping warm this winter, as well as information on what grants you may be entitled too: see the Keeping Warm section.
The Met Office also has lots of advice and information on their Get Ready for Winter pages: www.metoffice.gov.uk/getreadyforwinter
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos
