Letters to the editor

HOW much longer must residents endure the endemic dog fouling in this area?

There appears no will nor action to deal with this, as there also is the problem of rubbish in the form of black bags, which are regularly dumped at the side of trees day in day out. This is surely attracting vermin and is unsightly.

There is a huge gap between the best and worst recycling boroughs in London.

For example, Bexley recycles over half its waste, while Newham recycles a mere 15 per cent. This doesn't mean people in one part of London are somehow born three times more likely to recycle than people in another part.

THE article on your website (Residents threatened with TV cut-off by Virgin Media affecting 1,600 residents in Kensington and Chelsea) provides a stark warning to everyone in the Royal Borough that receiving a TV signal from a cable TV company is not a secure and reliable option.

THE Foreign Secretary, David Milliband, turned up in Hammersmith to attack the record of Hammersmith and Fulham Council, but he appeared to have been given a dodgy dossier beforehand.

SUFFERING noisy and inconsiderate neighbours? People up all night shouting and carrying on? Surely I'm not the only one complaining about this menace.

On our estate, at Dalgarno Gardens, we have endured years of anti-social tenants, having all-night parties and keeping the rest of us awake.

From SALLY MIZANI
I HAVE known Michael Beverley for many years, both with his work for the TMO and as a member of Notting Hill Sector Working Party, on behalf of gay people in the borough.

He will be greatly missed and difficult to replace. He gave so much to people in the borough and had so much more left to give.

From JENNY STURROCK
I AM one of Michael's sisters and would like to thank you for the kind comments. His funeral will be at Lambeth Crematorium on January 6 at 1.15pm.

From ROBERT DEARLE
I WENT to school with Michael. He told me a few weeks ago he was depressed. I was not there when he needed someone to talk to. God bless Michael.

ON MONDAY, January 4 thousands of Westminster residents returning to work after the Christmas and new year break will be hit by Boris Johnson's above-inflation fare increase.

The fares hike, which kicks in on Saturday, January 2, will see: * A single bus journey by Oyster up 20 per cent to £1.20. * A weekly Oyster bus pass up 20 per cent to £16.60.

From BORIS JOHNSON Mayor of London

WITH the new year come resolutions - get fit, go to the gym, take up cycling.

As a cyclist, I can vouch for its mental as well as physical benefits, but not everyone can or wants to get on a bike. Yet too many Londoners experience poor health, from obesity to heart disease and reduced life expectancy. With my adviser on health, Pam Chesters, I'm looking at how to reduce the factors that can contribute to poor health.

From CLARISSA BALDWIN Chief executive, Dogs Trust
DESPITE our slogan 'A Dog is For Life, Not Just for Christmas' and warnings against buying puppies as Christmas presents, there will be some families who received a puppy as a gift this Christmas.

It is often rescue centres such as Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity, who have to pick up the pieces after the novelty of a new puppy has worn off.
