SINCE the current administration of Hammersmith and Fulham Council was elected in 2006, following a pre-election pledge to reduce the council tax every year by three per cent, it has done just that.
Conversely, it also stated, on record, that it would not reintroduce home care charging for essential support to older and disabled people. In January 2007, after the administration was elected, it did a turnaround and announced that charging was to be reinstated.
In the last council budget before May's local elections, the council is proposing to reduce council tax by a further three per cent. Meanwhile, older and disabled people now face a two per cent increase on the ã12.40 hourly charge rate for essential services.
Each week we hand over space to an organisation, club, charity or individual who has an axe to grind, a point to make or a campaign to promote.
This week, Chief Executive of Action Disability Kensington and Chelsea, Jamie Renton, appeals for more stations with step-free access on London's transport network.
Do you have something the world needs to hear?
We are looking for organisations, clubs, charities or individuals who have an axe to grind, a point to make or a campaign to promote to contribute to our Soapbox feature in your all new Chronicle.
If you are interested in writing 200 words on your chosen subject email Ed Saunt or call him on 07795 666587.
The Kensington & Chelsea Chronicle is YOUR paper.
We want to hear you views, what issues affect you, and how you think our borough should be run.
This is what Soapbox is for, and over the next few weeks, we'll be running regular Soapbox features where our readers will have the opportunity to have the platform, so to speak.
Please use it - let's make our borough the best it can be. Send an email to Ed Saunt for details.
